MITSUKOSHI BGC celebrates its 2nd anniversary with Tanabata Matsuri inspired festivities and mall-wide activities

Since it opened its doors in July 2023, Federal Land’s MITSUKOSHI BGC has carved its niche in the local retail landscape by bringing together the Japanese and Filipino way of living under one roof. The four-level lifestyle mall has become a preferred destination for shoppers looking for premium finds, tasteful selections, and cultural experiences that go beyond the usual visit.

Now on its second year, MITSUKOSHI BGC marks the milestone with a month-long celebration inspired by Tanabata Matsuri, the Japanese summer festival rooted in the legend of two star-crossed lovers who reunite once a year on the 7th of July. In Japan, families celebrate the season by writing wishes on colorful strips of paper and hanging them on bamboo trees, alongside vibrant decorations that light up homes and neighborhoods.
Running from July 18 to August 14, the anniversary festivity brings a full lineup of cultural activities, creative workshops, retail experiences, and symbolic rituals.
What’s in store this season
The festivities kicked off with a ceremonial inauguration last July 19, highlighted by the traditional Kagami Biraki, a Japanese custom that involves the opening of a sake barrel to mark harmony and new beginnings.

A crowd favorite also made her return to the spotlight: Mitsuko, our favorite friend from Japan and neighbor from The Seasons Residences, unveiled a brand-new look in honor of the occasion. Her refreshed appearance serves as a cheerful symbol of MITSUKOSHI BGC's ongoing story and a nod to the joyful spirit of Tanabata.
What to look forward to is the Grand Matsuri Sale that runs throughout the duration of the celebration, offering exclusive items and promos from participating tenants. Each week, a new retail category takes the spotlight.
From July 25 to 31, the Red Tag Sale features fashionable finds and accessories from Giordano, Dr. Leather, G-Shock, Analogue, Fino Leatherwear, Beyond the Box, and Cutting Edge.
Home improvement takes centerstage from August 1 to 7, with the Home Fair Blowout Sale led by True Value’s stylish selection of household must-haves.
The final week from August 8 to 14 turns its focus on the kids with All for Kids, offering toy deals and child-friendly dining options from @Tokyo, Keeplay, and Kids Box.
Adding to the excitement is the opening of Watsons, now located on Basement 1 near MITSUKOSHI FRESH. The addition makes it easier for shoppers to access personal care and wellness products within the mall.
Interactive weekends and creative workshops
The Tanabata Matsuri also brings playful and hands-on experiences to weekends. From July 19 to August 17, every Friday to Sunday, shoppers can participate in Senbonbiki, a traditional Japanese game where each string pulled reveals a surprise gift. Customers who present a ₱2,500 single or accumulated receipt may join, with prizes from brands like Canmake, MNLA, Bandai Gashapon, Kiehl’s, Yoyogi, and more.

Meanwhile, Natsu Workshops offer creative escape for mallgoers every weekend. These hands-on sessions include Make Your Own Sandwich with Kewpie on July 27; Miniature Terrarium-making with Moss Escape on August 2 and 3; and pottery classes with Bumi and Ashe on August 9 to10 and August 23 to 24. All sessions are held at 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM.
