Police Maj. Gen. Anthony A. Aberin, director of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), lauded his men for what he described as successful implementation of security measures during President Marcos’ fourth State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Monday, July 28.
“Through intensified coordination, early contingency planning, and synchronized deployment with partner agencies, the NCRPO ensured that the President’s annual address proceeded without disruption,” said Aberin.
“Despite the challenges posed by adverse weather conditions, the entire activity remained peaceful, with zero untoward incidents recorded,” he added.
Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Nicolas Torre III said around 16,000 policemen from the NCRPO were deployed to secure the President’s SONA. Another 6,000 cops, he said, were sent to Metro Manila from Central Luzon and Calabarzon.
On the other hand, around 4,000 individuals participated in protest actions along Commonwealth Avenue.
Aberin said the protest action was peaceful, attributing it to the series of coordination with various groups.
“The PNP provided an environment wherein they can freely and safely exercise their right to freedom of expression and peaceful assembly. With maximum tolerance, NCRPO ensured that the exercise of these sacred rights are unimpeded but at the same time, in accordance with law and the permits given to them by the Quezon City government,” said Aberin.
Aside from policemen, Aberin also expressed gratitude to other government agencies for deploying their own personnel to assist.
He said a substantial number of personnel from other government agencies like the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), the Department of Health (DOH) and even from the military.
“These personnel were strategically positioned in chokepoints, rally zones, first aid stations, and within the perimeter of the House of Representatives,” said Aberin.
Aberin said operational and intelligence units of the NCRPO also worked hard preempting possible threats and maintaining public order.
“The seamless implementation of NCRPO’s security plan enabled effective crowd control, response readiness, and operational discipline across all units involved,” he said.
“With the guidance of the Chief, PNP, this clearly safe, secure, and successful SONA 2025 is the result of everyone’s dedication, coordination, and firm grasp of the mission. On behalf of the whole NCRPO, I sincerely extend my heartfelt thanks and gratitude to all personnel for their service. You have once again demonstrated NCRPO’s capability to handle high-risk national events with competence and integrity,” Aberin added.
