CEBU CITY – At least 15 passengers were injured when a passenger bus turned on its side on a highway in Bilar town, Bohol province on Tuesday morning, July 29.
Police said the Southern Star Bus with license plates JVL-125 was seen zigzagging until it overshot a sharp curve.
The driver, Jernel Alcantar Cagosaleto, tried to recover but eventually lost control of the steering wheel, causing the bus to fall on its side.
Police said Cagosaleto fled the scene after the incident and ran straight to the Loboc Police Station to surrender.
The driver told police that he decided to flee for fear of getting lynched.
Personnel of the Bilar Search and Rescue Unit arrived in the area and applied first aid on some of the injured passengers.
Police Lt. Col. Norman Nuez, information officer of the Bohol Police Provincial Office, said the driver is facing charges of reckless imprudence resulting in multiple physical injuries and damage to property.
