Ilocos Norte 1st district Rep. Sandro Marcos expressed modesty and an eagerness to contribute following his election as House majority leader in the 20th Congress.
"Nagpapasalamat ako na hinalal ako bilang majority leader (I'm thankful that I was elected majority leader). It was obviously unexpected," Rep. Marcos said in a chance interview Monday afternoon, July 28 just before his father, President Marcos, delivered his fourth State of the Nation Address (SONA) at the House of Representatives.
"Of course anything to help the country, anything to help the House. And I hope I'll be able to contribute as much as I can," said the solon who is just on his second term in the chamber.
While he believes he's ready for the job, Rep. Marcos acknowledges it's still a task that would require a lot of effort to fulfill properly.
"Alam niyo naman (As you know), I worked [under then-majority leader Martin Romualdez] for two years, I was SDML, senior deputy majority leader for three. So I think I'm well prepared enough for the job," said the 31-year-old.
"Pero dagdag trabaho talaga yan (But that's still addtional work). I mean the job of majority leader, it's a thankless job and it’s a lot of late nights and a lot of work. Pero tingin ko handa naman po tayo (But I think I'm ready)," the presidential son added.
The House majority bloc--or the solons who favored Leyte 1st district Rep. Martin Romualdez' election as 20th Congress Speaker--totalled 269.
