In a bold, emotional moment, rising Sparkle artist Shuvee Etrata opened up about the harsh realities she faces as a provincial lass entering showbiz, challenging the stereotypes that continue to follow her.
“Kasi feeling nila taga-isla 'tapos makuha agad nila yung virginity (ko),” stated Shuvee in a interview with Vice Ganda, relating some actors she met.
She didn't name names even as a surprised Vice Ganda joked: “Ay, ganun talaga, virginity agad? Hindi puwede kung magtatanong lang kung magkano ang pearl sa isla ninyo? Hindi man lang magtatanong (kung) magkano banana boat sa inyo?”
But Shuvee maintained her serious mien.
“Okay, meme, let's be real. Sometimes yun ang tingin ng lalake sa akin...dinede-value nila ako as a woman kasi feeling nila taga-probinsya kaya nilang loko-lokohin.”
She continued, “Ako talaga it's hard for me to trust...gusto ko rin naman magmahal (but) non-negotiable sa akin ang sex.”
Shuvee also stood firm in her values on love and intimacy: “I don't support premarital sex. You know, (yung) puwede mag-enjoy, magtikiman, ganun-ganun...I don't believe in that. Kasi bakit ka manggagamit ng ibang tao? Ibibigay mo yun 'tapos you're gonna make it easy for them to get you...”
In her raw honesty, Shuvee challenges the labels placed on women like her—and reminds everyone that self-worth is never up for negotiation.
