Sample please: De Lima tells Marcos to 'walk the talk' after warning vs corruption
Mamamayang Liberal (ML) Party-list Rep. Leila de Lima (PPAB)
Mamamayang Liberal (ML) Party-list Rep. Leila de Lima said Monday, July 28, that President Marcos must walk the talk "if he is really serious" about fighting corruption.
"Dapat mag-sample na siya (He should start showing an example)," De Lima said in an interview, in response to President Marcos' fourth State of the Nation Address (SONA).
De Lima lauded President Marcos' address, particularly when he warned against the "hocus-pocus" in flood control projects.
Marcos, in his address, denounced the systemic racketeering in government projects, which he said he was aware of.
“Mahiya naman kayo sa mga kabahayan nating naanod o nalubog sa baha. Mahiya naman kayo lalo sa mga anak natin na magmamana sa mga utang na ginawa ninyo, na binulsa niyo lang ang pera (Shame on you for the homes washed away or flooded. Shame on you, especially for the debt you incurred that our children will inherit—money you only pocketed),” he said.
Marcos underscored the importance of transparency and accountability in budget planning, and asserted that funds must directly support national development goals.
It was really a good pronouncement according to De Lima; that was why it received thundering applause from the audience at the plenary of the House of Representatives.
"Sana ay seryosohin nya 'yun. Sana (I hope he would take it seriously. I hope) he would walk the talk since it's a very strong stance on the part of the President. He must really show that he's really serious " she said.
