A 15-year-old Grade 9 student was saved from being raped by a 26-year-old man in Barangay Malanday, Marikina City, on Sunday, July 27, the Marikina City Police reported.
According to Marikina City Police officer-in-charge Col. Geoffrey Gonzales, the victim and the suspect met through an online messaging application. The two allegedly agreed to meet and have sex after four days of chatting.
Upon meeting at the house of the suspect's cousin, where they agreed to do the act, the victim hesitated, forcing the suspect to pull out a knife and threaten to stab the girl in the face.
Subsequently, a person knocked on the room where the two were inside, prompting the suspect to let the victim go.
The girl immediately told her parents about the incident and reported the crime to the Women and Children Protection Desk of the barangay. A police operation was conducted, leading to the suspect's arrest.
Gonzales said the suspect is currently detained at the Marikina City Police Custodial Facility and will face attempted rape charges.
