Chery Tiggo guns for an outright quarterfinal spot as it tangles with ZUS Coffee on Tuesday, July 29, in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) On Tour at the Candon City Arena in Ilocos Sur.
Match is at 4 p.m. with the Crossovers also looking to bounce back from a four-set loss to the Creamline Cool Smashers last week in Passi City, Iloilo.
Sporting a 3-1 win-loss record, a victory for Chery Tiggo would draw them level with Pool B leader Cignal and secure a direct ticket to the next phase of the tournament.
However, a loss would complicate matters as it would create a three-way tie with ZUS Coffee and Creamline for second place in Pool B. In that scenario, the Cool Smashers, who finished the preliminaries with a 3-2 record, are likely to claim the outright quarters spot with a total of 10 points.
Meanwhile, the Crossovers and the Thunderbelles, who currently have eight and five points, respectively, heading into the crucial matchup, would be relegated to the knockout round to battle for the remaining four quarterfinal slots.
Under the tournament format, the top two teams from each pool gain automatic quarters berths, while the last four teams in each group will engage in crossover knockout matches for the remaining seats.
Cess Robles, Ara Galang and Shaya Adorador are expected to fuel Chery Tiggo’s assault along with promising rookies Renee Penafiel and Jyne Soreño, but ZUS Coffee wouldn’t be intimidated easily with Chinnie Arroyo, Fiola Ceballos and Jovelyn Gonzaga leading the charge.
Meanwhile, Choco Mucho and Petro Gazz battle for a stronger seeding in the crossover knockout phase when they clash at 6:30 p.m.
PLDT and Nxled already clinched outright berths after emerging as the top 2 teams in Pool A with 5-0 and 4-1 marks, while Choco Mucho and Petro Gazz carry identical 1-3 marks at fourth to fifth places.
