The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported that a magnitude 4.7 earthquake struck Masbate province at 2:35 p.m. on Monday, July 28.
The earthquake’s epicenter was located 12 kilometers northwest of San Fernando, Masbate, at a depth of 11 kilometers.
Phivolcs said the earthquake was felt at Intensity V (strong) in San Fernando, while Intensity IV (moderately strong) was recorded in Masbate City and Uson, also in Masbate, and Bulan in Sorsogon.
Intensity III (weak) shaking was recorded in Aroroy, Baleno, Cataingan, Cawayan, Mandaon, Monreal, Pio V. Corpus, Palanas, and San Jacinto, all in Masbate.
Intensity II (slightly felt) was registered in Balud in Masbate and Casiguran, Irosin, Juban, and Pilar in Sorsogon.
Meanwhile, it was “scarcely perceptible” at Intensity I in Bulusan and Magallanes in Sorsogon.
Phivolcs said no damage to property is expected and no aftershocks are anticipated.
