QC tightens security, emergency measures for SONA 2025

The Quezon City government said it will implement tight security and safety measures ahead of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s fourth State of the Nation Address (SONA), on Monday, July 28, at the Batasang Pambansa Complex.

Over 12,000 personnel are set to be deployed throughout the city, with more than 10,000 coming from the Quezon City Police District.

Additional support will come from over 2,300 members of the city’s Law and Order Cluster and various national and local government offices.

These include the Department of Public Order and Safety (DPOS), Traffic and Transport Management Department (TTMD), the Task Force Disiplina, the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO), the Department of Sanitation and Cleanup Works, Market Development and Administration Department, Bureau of Fire Protection, and the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA).

“We assure the public that the City Government is on top of this year’s SONA. We’ve been coordinating closely with the Philippine National Police to ensure that residents, guests, and demonstrators alike are safe throughout the day,” Mayor Joy Belmonte said.

The mayor said that groups planning to hold peaceful demonstrations will be welcomed, provided they coordinate with the DPOS for rally permits.

To help manage expected traffic congestion near Batasan and other major roads, the TTMD will dispatch additional personnel across key routes.

Motorists are advised to follow rerouting advisories that may be issued on the day of the address.

The city’s emergency response units will also be on high alert, with teams from the DRRMO, Emergency Medical Services, Search and Rescue, and Barangay Health Emergency Response Teams on standby to respond to any incidents.
