Tamaraw Sprint Race to headline final leg of the 2025 Toyota Gazoo Racing Philippine Cup

Toyota Motor Philippines will conclude the 2025 Toyota Gazoo Racing Philippine Cup at Clark International Speedway from August 8 to 9, with a spotlight on the reborn Tamaraw. The next-generation pickup, built on a platform designed for emerging markets, will make its competitive debut in a dedicated Tamaraw Sprint Race Exhibition that headlines the final race weekend.
Toyota unveiled the racing version prototype of the Tamaraw during the second leg as a demonstration of the platform's capabilities and an effort to broaden its appeal through motorsport. The sprint race will feature identical trucks driven by former Vios Cup champions, Allan Uy, Daniel Miranda, Estefano Rivera, and John Dizon, alongside veteran test driver, Tyson Sy, in a 10-lap contest that serves as an initial proof of concept for a full one-make series. A separate drag-strip run will showcase the pickup’s straight-line performance.
The Tamaraw activity is part of a packed main program that also includes two 10-lap Vios Cup sprint races and the return of the 90-minute endurance race format. With only one weekend left, the championship battles remain close. Russel Cabrera of Toyota Team Cebu, Standard Insurance, leads the Super Sporting Class by a narrow margin over Alain Gabriel Alzona of Toyota General Santos, Smart Communications Racing, and Michael Bryan Co of R Garage, Toyota Dagupan Group. In the Sporting Class, Obengers Racing driver Jesse Garcia holds a slight edge over Toyota Gazoo Racing Philippines racer Russel Reyes and R Racing’s Raymond Cudala. The Novice division is an all Toyota Gazoo Racing Philippines affair, with Luis Moreno ahead of Pablo Salapantan and TMP President Masando Hashimoto.
Support races will feature GR Yaris, GR Supra, and GR 86 owners on the grid for a five-lap club shootout, while a drifting exhibition will keep the circuit busy between competitive sessions.
Gates open at 8:30 a.m., and admission is free. Fans can also follow a multi-camera live stream on the Toyota Gazoo Racing Philippines Facebook page and YouTube channel.
“It’s the final race weekend of the year, so we want to end on a high with new activities such as the Tamaraw Sprint Race and the return of the Endurance Race. We invite everyone who got a taste of the thrill of motorsports last Race Weekend 2 to join us for Race Weekend 3, where we’ve packed even more exciting activities,” said TMP Assistant Vice President for Marketing Services, Andy Ty.
Away from the track, spectators can explore display units from the GR and GR-S portfolio, purchase official merchandise, and record lap times on sim-racing rigs that double as qualifiers for the Toyota Gazoo Racing Philippines eSports GT Championship 2025. Sponsor booths will distribute giveaways throughout the day, and indie pop outfit Over October will perform before the podium ceremony.
The meeting is sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines. Petron provides fuel and lubricants, and GT Radial supplies tires. Additional partners include Seiko, Toyota Financial Services Philippines, Tuason Racing, AVT, 3M, Denso, OMP, ROTA, Autoplus, PIAA, Vinyl Frog Premier Vehicle Wraps, AutoQuix, Bebang Halo Halo, myTOYOTA Wallet, and Kinto One.
