The President first visited the Tanza National High School, which is serving as an evacuation center for residents displaced by rising floodwaters. A total of 162 families, or 538 individuals, were recorded as having sought shelter at the school.
Marcos was briefed on the situation and checked on the condition of evacuees, including children.
Before this, Marcos went to the damaged Tangos-Tanza Navigational Gate, a key infrastructure that regulates the water level of the Navotas River. He was joined by Navotas Representative Toby Tiangco and Mayor John Rey Tiangco during the inspection.
The navigational gate, which acts as a crucial barrier against tidal overflow, is currently under repair. Local authorities have cited severe weather as a cause of delays in the rehabilitation work, with completion now expected in August.
Early this week, the Navotas City Public Information Office reported that high tide reached over 2.5 meters, leading to seawater spilling into low-lying barangays and prompting emergency evacuations.
City officials have assured the public that despite the setbacks, repair work on the gate continues and is being monitored to ensure compliance with safety and engineering standards.
