“Ngayon na may desisyon na ang Supreme Court, galangin natin ito. Sana ay maging daan ito para sa ating pagkakaisa bilang isang bansa, alang-alang sa ating bayan at mga mamamayan lalo na ang mga mahihirap,” Go said.
(Now that the SC has made its decision, let us respect it. I hope this becomes a path toward our unity as a nation, for the sake of our country and our people, especially the poor.)
He then emphasized the need to prioritize the passage of laws that would improve government programs and make public services more accessible, especially amid the widespread flooding caused by recent typhoons.
“Tuluy-tuloy lang tayo sa ating trabaho at pagseserbisyo, lalo na sa panahon ngayon na maraming mga kababayan natin ang apektado pa rin ng malawakang pagbaha dala ng sunud-sunod na mga bagyo (Let us continue with our work and service, especially now that many of our fellow Filipinos are still affected by widespread flooding caused by successive typhoons),” he said.
Go reiterated the importance of proper legal processes. He is thankful for the Senate's earlier decision to remand the impeachment complaint.
He added that they must respect and abide by the decision of the SC, as the final arbiter on legal issues, barring the current impeachment proceedings on the grounds of due process.
Citing the high court’s explanation, Go noted that the issues surrounding the four impeachment complaints—including violations of the one-year bar and procedural lapses—have now been addressed.
“Sa paliwanag ng SC, nasagot na ang ating mga katanungan ukol sa apat na impeachment complaints na hindi alinsunod sa one-year ban at iba pang prosesong mistulang hindi nasunod kung kaya’t hindi maaaring maipagpatuloy ang impeachment,” he said.
(According to the SC’s explanation, our questions regarding the four impeachment complaints—which violated the one-year ban and other seemingly unmet procedural requirements—have been answered, and thus the impeachment cannot proceed).
He concluded by reaffirming his earlier position that justice must follow proper procedure and cannot be achieved through shortcuts.
“Justice delayed is justice denied. And justice conducted the wrong way is no justice at all. Hindi pwede ang shortcut (Shortcuts are not allowed),” Go said.
