Bacolod HFMD cases up 239%

BACOLOD CITY – The City Health Office (CHO) is working closely with the Department of Education (DepEd) and school medical officers to track cases of hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD) in this highly-urbanized city.

Dr. Grace Tan, head of the CHO Environment and Sanitation Division, reported that from Jan. 1 to July 12, the city recorded 78 HFMD cases, a 239 percent increase compared to 23 cases during the same period last year.
She noted that these figures are based on verified reports submitted by physicians and hospitals, along with corresponding case investigation forms.
Tan cautioned that actual numbers may be higher due to unreported cases, emphasizing that proper documentation is necessary for validation.
Barangay Villamonte logged the highest number of cases with 12, followed by Estefania with nine, Mansilingan with eight, Singcang-Airport, Tangub, and Cabug with six each, five in Barangay Granada, four in Barangay Vista Alegre, and three each in Barangays Banago, Alijis, and Mandalagan.
Children aged one- to 10-years-old were the most affected group, with 64 cases. Thirty-six were female and 28 were male.
To raise awareness and prevent further spread, the CHO continues to share advisories through social media, educating the public on HFMD symptoms, transmission, and prevention.
