ZAMBOANGA CITY – More than 100 students in Isabela City, Basilan province were taken to various hospitals on Thursday, July 24, due to heat exhaustion.

A report from the Isabela City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office said students of the Basilan National High School were holding their intramural parade in the afternoon when several fainted and lost consciousness after prolonged outdoor activity.
School officials and the CDRRMO, together with other government agencies, responded and brought the students to various hospitals.
Reports said 120 students were hospitalized although the initial number was said to have reached 180.
As of 7:20 p.m. Thursday, majority of the students have been stabilized and no life-threatening conditions were reported after receiving cooling intervention and oral rehydration.
The Department of Education has recommended suspending outdoor drills or parades during peak afternoon hours and ensure hydration of students.
