Nickelodeon just teased the first look of its upcoming series, "Avatar: Seven Havens." The series is a sequel to previous entries, "The Legend of Korra" and "Avatar: The Last Airbender." Its announcement comes in time for the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the beloved animated show.
Based on details revealed from the show's San Diego Comic Con 2025 panel, "Avatar: Seven Havens" follows the story of an earthbender who discovers she is the next Avatar. Unfortunately, in this setting, being the Avatar means that she is marked to become humanity's destroyer rather than savior. Together with her long-lost twin brother, she must find a way to uncover their origins before the world collapses.
How influential is the Avatar?
When "Avatar: The Last Airbender" first premiered in 2005, its popularity rose through the charts. It is the only Nickelodeon series that has managed to beat "SpongeBob SquarePants" during the Kids' Choice Awards after nabbing the Kids' Choice Award for Favorite Cartoon in 2008. Audiences have often lauded the show for its approach to adult themes. At the height of its popularity, director M. Night Shyamalan ("The Sixth Sense," "Split," and "Glass") took on the mantle of directing a full-length live-action movie, "The Last Airbender." Unfortunately, the movie did not appeal to audiences and critics for its treatment of the characters. Years later, a sequel series following the next Avatar, Korra, brought a renewed spark and interest in the show. In 2020, Netflix released its live-action adaptation of the show. While it had a mixed response from fans, it managed to draw a big enough audience to warrant a second season and drew in more fans to the original series.
