Wushu star Agatha Wong and wakeboarder Raphael Trinidad have been selected as the country’s flag bearers for the 2025 World Games, set to take place from August 7 to 17 in Chengdu, China.
The Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) made the announcement following its Executive Board meeting on Friday, July 25, in Tagaytay City.
Wong, 27, is one of the country’s most decorated athletes in wushu, having won two silver medals in the world championships and five gold medals across four editions of the Southeast Asian Games. She also claimed a bronze medal at the 2018 Asian Games in Indonesia.
Trinidad, 24, is a rising Cebuano standout who earned his spot in the World Games after capturing gold at the 2025 IWWF Asia & Oceania Cable Wakeboard and Wakeskate Championships held in Angeles, Pampanga last January.
The Philippines is set to compete in 11 of the 34 sports featured in the 12th edition of the World Games, with representatives in both individual and team events, including floorball and dragon boat racing.
Among the qualified athletes are billiards players Jeff De Luna, Rubilen Amit and Chezka Centeno; jiu-jitsu artists Kaila Napolis and Annie Ramirez; kickboxer Hergie Bacyadan; muay standout Rudzma Abubakar; powerlifters Regie Ramirez and Joyce Gail Reboton; sambo athlete Aislinn Agnes Yap; wakeboarder Eric Ordonez; duathletes Franklin Yee, Maynard Pecson, John Patrick Ciron, Kim Mangrobang, Bea Maria Quiambao and Merry Joy Trupa; and wushu artists Krizan Faith Collado, Carlos Baylon Jr. and Jones Llabres Inso.
In the 2022 edition held in Birmingham, United States, the country sent seven athletes across five sports and came home with one gold medal courtesy of karateka Junna Tsukii.
