To ensure the unhampered delivery of relief goods and essential supplies amid continuous rains, personnel from the Land Transportation Office (LTO) have been deployed to assist government and private vehicles navigating flood-hit roads.
“Under the guidance of [Department of Transportation] Secretary [Vince] Dizon, we already informed all regional directors to mobilize a sufficient number of personnel for road assistance to government vehicles delivering relief goods and those transporting equipment for search, rescue, and road clearing operations,” said acting LTO chief, Assistant Secretary Greg G. Pua.
The deployment, carried out in coordination with the DOTr, also covers support for private trucks delivering food and other basic commodities to markets in storm-affected areas.
“This is to ensure that the flow of commodities will not be hampered amid the weather disturbances we are continuously experiencing,” Pua added.
He said all regional offices have been directed to prioritize areas in Luzon where road access remains heavily disrupted by flooding and debris.
In addition to logistical support, LTO personnel were ordered to extend on-site assistance to stranded motorists and ensure safe passage along critical transport routes affected by persistent rains.
Enforcement teams have likewise been tasked to monitor and apprehend motorists violating traffic safety regulations, especially those engaging in reckless driving on slippery and hazardous roads.
Pua cited several complaints and social media reports showing dangerous behavior behind the wheel during inclement weather, warning that such actions could lead to serious accidents.
“We encourage our netizens to inform us about these reckless drivers who compromise road safety,” he said, urging the public to report incidents through the LTO’s “AksyOn the Spot” hotline at 0929-292-0865.
