The Parañaque City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) recommended declaring a state of calamity in the city due to widespread devastation caused by "habagat" and Typhoon Crising.
Parañaque City Mayor Edwin Olivarez said the CDRRMO submitted the recommendation to the Sangguniang Panglungsod during a committee meeting held on Friday, July 25.
Olivarez said the move aims to address the effects of continued heavy rains and implement immediate help to residents affected by the weather disturbances.
He said that although the city had no death cases during the crisis, a total of 1,647 families or 6,026 individuals affected by flooding sought temporary shelter at the city’s 22 evacuation centers under the care of the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO).
The mayor said flood victims suffered losses during the crisis, while children and senior citizens were at risk of getting waterborne diseases.
“Ang deklarasyong ito ay magbubukas ng karagdagang pondo gaya ng calamity fund mula sa national government para sa pag-deploy ng karagdagang recovery programs para sa mga biktima, at pag-rehabilitate ng kritikal na imprastruktura, (The declaration is meant to open additional funds for calamity fund from the national government for deployment of additional programs for the flood victims and rehabilitation of infrastructure), Olivarez said.
