Familiar face in Gilas-Macau clash

Gilas Pilipinas will have to tame a familiar face when it goes up against the Macau Black Bears in a tune-up game at the Smart Araneta Coliseum Monday, July 28.
That’s because they will collide against Quentin Millora-Brown – one of the key players in University of the Philippines’s triumph over La Salle in the UAAP last season.
The game is part of Gilas’ buildup for the 2025 FIBA Asia Cup in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia next month.
Recently, the Black Bears shared the signing of the 6-foot-10 Fil-American center, who had a successful one-and-done stint with the Fighting Maroons, claiming the UAAP Season 87 men’s basketball crown.
"With NCAA and UAAP experience under his belt, including stints at Vanderbilt, The Citadel, and a championship run with UP, Quentin brings elite rebounding, shot-blocking, and interior toughness," the team wrote on its social media post.
Interestingly, Millora-Brown has been one of the few players the fans want to see wear the Gilas uniform before FIBA ruled out the possibility of the big man to play as a local.
Still, his matchup against Gilas big men Japeth Aguilar, AJ Edu, June Mar Fajardo and Justin Brownlee should be fun to watch.
The 24-year-old cager has been a force to be reckoned with after a splendid debut in Macau’s 121-105 triumph over the Phuket Whales Aces in The Asian Tournament last Tuesday where he posted a monstrous 20-point, 17-rebound output.
“Paint Monster,” Macau wrote on Millora-Brown’s performance.
“Quentin Millora-Brown went full beast mode in the paint, crashing the boards, finishing tough plays, and making the interior his territory. Every rebound, every point, came with impact.”
Millora-Brown impressed in his one and only UAAP Finals, averaging 14 points, nine rebounds and 2.3 assists to beat Kevin Quiambao and the De La Salle Green Archers in three games.
