5,000 teachers, cops, firemen in Bacolod granted allowance
GASATAYA
BACOLOD CITY – More than 5,000 public school teachers, police officers, and Bureau of Fire Protection personnel in this highly-urbanized city will begin receiving their allowances amounting to a total of P27,196,500 starting Friday, July 25.
Mayor Greg Gasataya approved the allowance disbursement on Thursday, July 24, in recognition of their essential contributions to education and community safety.
Marty Go, Secretary to the Mayor, said the monthly Emergency Cost of Living Allowance (ECOLA) for public school teachers increased from P2,000 to P2,200 starting this year.
The P2,200 monthly allowance covers the months of April to June for 3,860 teachers, totaling P25,476,000.
Meanwhile, 1,023 police personnel and 124 BFP personnel will each receive P1,500 for June, amounting to a total of P1,720,500.
The city government said the financial support aims to ease the daily burden on these frontline workers while boosting morale and reinforcing their capacity to serve effectively.
“These everyday heroes risk their lives, care for safety, and shape young minds often with limited resources,” according to Gasataya.
Thus, recognizing their vital roles is a simple yet meaningful way to honor their dedication and sacrifice, he said.
Gasataya thanked them for their continued commitment and service to the public.
