A private wall collapsed along Celestino Street in Barangay San Jose, Navotas City on Wednesday morning, July 24, causing significant flooding and prompting swift rescue and evacuation efforts in the area.
The incident occurred at around 8:15 a.m., based on initial reports from local authorities. Floodwaters quickly rose in surrounding communities, raising concerns for residents’ safety.
Navotas City Mayor John Rey Tiangco rushed to the scene to personally oversee the emergency response and assist in rescue operations.
He was joined by rescue teams and personnel from the city’s Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO), who were immediately deployed to help affected families and secure the area to prevent further harm.
As of writing, the full extent of the flooding and property damage is still being assessed.
No confirmed injuries or casualties have been reported, but authorities continue to monitor the situation and urged residents to stay vigilant and cooperative.
In a statement, the city’s Public Information Office (PIO) clarified that the collapsed wall is not connected to the river wall involved in a similar incident on June 28 that also resulted in severe flooding in the city.
