Taguig LGU warns residents as Laguna Lake breaches critical level
The Taguig City government warned residents of flooding as the Laguna Lake breached the critical level on July 24.
The Laguna Lake Development Authority (LLDA) issued an advisory that as of 10 a.m. on July 24, “the average water level in Laguna de Bay has reached 12.51 meters, surpassing the critical high threshold of 12.50 meters, based on real-time data from our radar-based monitoring stations across the lake.”

“Dahil dito, may mas mataas na panganib ng pagbaha sa mga mabababang lugar sa paligid ng lawa, kabilang ang ilang bahagi ng Taguig. Inaasahan ding magpapatuloy ang katamtaman hanggang malakas na pag-ulan sa mga susunod na araw dahil sa pinalakas na habagat at mga kalapit na low-pressure areas (This raises the risk of flooding in low-lying areas around the lake, including parts of Taguig. Moderate to heavy rains are also expected to continue in the coming days due to the strengthened southwest monsoon and nearby low-pressure areas),” the Taguig City government said.
It advised residents, especially in flood-prone areas, to be cautious, alert, and wait for official announcements from the city government and government agencies.
“Iwasan muna ang mga aktibidad malapit sa lawa habang nananatili ang banta ng pagbaha (Avoid activities near the lake for now while the threat of flooding remains),” it said.
The LLDA said, “This development signals a heightened risk of flooding for lakeshore and low-lying communities, as continuous rainfall brought by the enhanced southwest monsoon (habagat) persists. This weather pattern, further intensified by nearby low-pressure systems, is expected to bring moderate to heavy rainfall within the Laguna de Bay region in the coming days.”
Once the Laguna Lake exceeds the critical level, the LLDA said, “it may take several months for the water to recede to its normal level, even if rainfall decreases. This prolonged elevated water level significantly increases the risk of extended flooding and widespread damage, especially in vulnerable areas.”
It advised people “in lakeshore and flood-prone communities to prepare for possible evacuation and implement preventive measures to protect life and property.”
