Israeli Ambassador to the Philippines Ilan Fluss and Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Secretary Hans Cacdac were at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) to receive the remains of Leah Mosquera upon arrival from Israel.
“The Government of Israel recognizes Leah as a victim of terror, and has taken responsibility for the repatriation of her body, the travel of her sister, Ms. May Joy Mosquera, and all expenses related to her wake and burial,” the embassy said in a statement.
“This is a gesture of solidarity and respect to all victims of terror in Israel no matter if they are Israeli or foreign,” it added.
Fluss expressed his “deepest condolences” to the Mosquera family, who was represented by Joy, also an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) in Israel.
“He also extended his heartfelt gratitude to the Filipino caregiver community in Israel for their tremendous contribution to Israeli society, and for their continued dedication even in times of such complexity,” the embassy said.
Mosquera’s remains were flown on Thursday, July 24, to her hometown of Negros Occidental, where local officials and representatives from the DMW and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) were among those present with her relatives.
The caregiver died in Israel on July 13, after spending almost a month in the hospital for the severe injuries she sustained when an Iranian missile hit the place where they were staying on June 15.
