On Thursday, July 24, Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto personally thanked the staff of the Local Civil Registry (LCR) at the temporary city hall, saying they had volunteered to go on duty despite the official suspension of work.
Sotto said they were included in the list of essential personnel.
“Ang totoo, ang staff pa ng CCRD (LCR) ang nag-request na payagan na silang pumasok (In fact, it was the staff of the CCRD (LCR) who requested to be allowed to report for work),” he said.
“Nakakaawa po kasi, isipin natin kung Biyernes p.m. tayo namatayan tapos weekend, tapos walang pasok Monday to Thursday… stress, dagdag gastos, mahihirapan ang mga kamag-anak galing probinsya… (It is heartbreaking to think of the situation. If someone passes away on a Friday afternoon, followed by the weekend and a work suspension from Monday to Thursday, it brings stress, added expenses, and difficulties, especially for relatives coming from the provinces),” the mayor explained.
The local government said the continued operation helped residents who came to process the death-related documents of their loved ones.
The mayor also thanked the staff of the city health/sanitation and the treasurer’s office/cashier who came to work, “Salamat sa inyong malasakit sa ating mga kapwa Pasigueño! (Thank you for your compassion and dedication to your fellow Pasigueños!).”
Meanwhile, the mayor reminded residents to remain cautious, as a rainfall warning remains in effect over the city due to the enhanced southwest monsoon and Typhoon Emong.
