Meralco nears full restoration in flood-hit areas

Power distributor remains on high alert and ready to respond to the impact of inclement weather

The Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) assures the public that it is working to restore electricity service to the remaining customers affected by service interruptions due to the inclement weather.
As of 4 p.m., Wednesday, July 23, affected customers, mostly in Cavite, Metro Manila and Bulacan and still due to flooding, are down to 2,790—less than 1% of Meralco's total customers.
Meralco remains on heightened alert as Tropical Storm Dante and Tropical Depression Emong, combined with the enhanced southwest monsoon, are expected to bring rains across its franchise area.
“As we near completion of our restoration activities, we would like to thank our customers for their patience and understanding and assure them that we will continue to closely monitor the weather situation and respond to electricity-related incidents, while prioritizing safety,"Meralco Vice President and Head of Corporate Communications Joe R. Zaldarriaga said.
“We also join the Department of Energy in relentlessly reminding the public to prioritize safety by strictly following electrical safety protocols, especially in communities impacted by floods,” he added.
Beyond restoration efforts, Meralco provides critical assistance to affected residents through Meralco Rescue, which deployed high-bed trucks and motorized fiberglass boats to support power restoration and rescue operations.
One Meralco Foundation, its corporate social development arm, continues to mobilize relief operations to affected residents in Marikina City; Bustos, Obando, Calumpit and Hagonoy in Bulacan; Commonwealth in Quezon City; and in Bacoor, Cavite.
