MIDSAYAP, North Cotabato – Authorities are pursuing armed assailants who killed the younger brother of Mayor Duma Mascud of Kadayangan town, Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) Special Geographic Area (SGA), on Thursday morning.
Police Lt. Col. Benhur Catcatan, Midsayap municipal police chief, said the victim, 55-year-old Dhen Mascud, was driving a private minivan when motorcycle-riding gunmen opened fire on him while he was on the national highway in Barangay Agriculture at 7 a.m.
“His wife, Anisa, sustained bullet injuries and is now undergoing medication in a hospital in Midsayap,” Catcatan said in an interview.
Police have yet to identify the perpetrators or the motive behind the attack.
Kadayangan is one of eight BARMM municipalities in the North Cotabato SGA which was formed through a 2019 plebiscite. The SGA was created by carving out 63 barangays from the municipalities of Carmen, Kabacan, Pikit, Aleosan, Midsayap, and Pigcawayan. (PNA)
