Couple electrocuted in flooded yard amid heavy rains in Bulacan

A married couple died after being electrocuted in their flooded backyard in Barangay Calumpang, Calumpit, Bulacan, on Thursday morning, July 24.

The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) identified the victims as Felipe Razon Jr., 74, and Ofelia Santos, 57.
Razon was reportedly the uncle of Daniel Razon, host of UNTV’s Ang Dating Daan religious program.
The victims were already dead by the time Meralco personnel arrived to disconnect the power supply.
The couple reportedly got electrocuted after they attempted to retrieve the iron sheet that was blown off their house, unaware that it had become entangled with a live electrical wire.
Carlo Torres, a rescue responder from MDRRMO Calumpit, said they found the couple’s bodies floating in floodwater within their compound.
A fallen iron sheet and an exposed wire were also discovered at the scene, believed to be the cause of the deadly accident.
The floodwaters in the area had reached waist-deep following days of continuous rain.
The provincial government of Bulacan expressed its condolences to the bereaved family.
