Riding the crest of the successful staging of the Junior World Showcase in Cagayan de Oro City, Sinag Liga Asya is already looking forward to providing the same avenue for grassroots basketball to Cebu.
No doubt a hotbed for basketball talents, Cebu is seen as the perfect province to host the third edition of the tournament next year.
“We are excited for the SLA Junior World 2026 edition which will be hosted by Cebu City and Cebu province,” said SLA chairman Rocky Chan.
The Junior World Showcase in Cagayan de Oro was a huge success according to Chan, especially because it showed that teams from the south can be as competitive even against teams from around the globe.
Webley Future Ballers ruled the Under-13 division while Juggernaut Bererem captured the U15 crown. Tumakbo Basketball (U17), J Project Clothing Boomers (U19), and United Legacy Ascend (U21) completed the titlists in the grassroots meet that featured local squads from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, with international teams adding spice.
“It was an amazing tournament we had in CdO not only because of the games that showed Mindanao teams can compete globally if given the opportunity,” Chan said.
“Also it’s the hospitality of the people of CdO which got the admiration of all the teams and the friendship built by the different teams especially the international teams. Umuwi ang lahat na may ngiti and no regrets. It showed the world that Mindanao is a place to visit especially Cagayan de Oro,” he added.
