CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro – The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office reported on Thursday, July 24, that at least nine towns were severely affected by massive flooding due to intense rainfall from the southwest monsoon or ‘’habagat’’ with Calapan City and Naujan town as areas with the highest number of impacted barangays.

PDRRMO-Oriental Mindoro said Victoria had eight barangays, Pola, seven; Bongabong, five; Baco, four; San Teodoro, four; Puerto Galera, three; Socorro, two, and Gloria, one.
As of 6 a.m., Calapan City has 17 affected barangays while Naujan has 11.
Mayor Doy Leachon here announced on social media that as of 9 a.m. Thursday, 18 barangays were submerged in knee-deep and waistline flood due to heavy rains that caused rivers to overflow.
He identified these barangays as Gutad, Nag-iba 1, Nag-iba 2, Batino, Camansihan, Bucayao, Santa Cruz, Maidlang, Lalud, Panggalaan, Comunal, Palhi, Santa Rita, Gulod, Personas, Buhuan, Guinobatan, and Canubing 2.
Gov. Humerlito Dolor said that the first tranche of relief goods consisting of 200 sacks of rice and canned goods have arrived at the provincial capitol here.
Army reservists, the Philippine Coast Guard, volunteers, and provincial government employees have been repacking these relief goods under the supervision of the Provincial Social Welfare Office (PSWDO).
Dolor instructed PDRRMO chief Vincent Gahol to coordinate closely with other government agencies on rescue and relief operations.
The PDRRMO said six major highways and roads in Calapan City, Bucayao, Parang, Gutad, Panggalaan, Sampaguita in Naujan, and Poblacion in Baco are impassable to all types of vehicles.
