CASK CLASS Every bottle in The Whisky Library’s collection is a masterclass in craftsmanship and character.
The Whisky Library at Newport World Resorts continues to raise the bar for spirit appreciation in Manila with a fresh slate of whisky masterclasses this August through September. More than just tastings, these sessions are immersive, sit-down experiences that bring together thoughtful pairings, storytelling, and some of the world’s most revered whisky houses.
Each monthly installment in the three-part series offers a guided tasting of aged expressions from a featured distillery, accompanied by four-course menus that match the character of the pour with precision.
August: The Balvenie’s handcrafted touch
On Aug. 20, the spotlight turns to The Balvenie, a Speyside single malt celebrated for its commitment to traditional craftsmanship. This class begins with the 12-Year-Old Double Wood, whose honeyed complexity is paired again with baked Camembert. The 14-Year-Old Caribbean Cask follows, its rum cask finish echoing the sweet-savory interplay of chicken adobo. To close, the 16-Year-Old French Oak—known for its floral finesse—is served with white chocolate-dipped strawberries. Tickets are P4,200 nett.
September: The Glenlivet experience
Rounding out the series on Sept. 17, The Whisky Library presents a vertical tasting of The Glenlivet, a cornerstone of Speyside single malts. The tasting opens with the Founder’s Reserve, a creamy dram paired with chicken adobo. The 12-Year-Old, with citrus and apple notes, is served alongside smoked salmon tartare. A richer 15-Year-Old comes with sous vide US sirloin, before the 18-Year-Old closes with a refined flourish, complemented by sabayon. Tickets are P4,000 nett.
Each session offers a rare opportunity to taste through aged expressions side by side, with expert-led discussions that trace the history and philosophy of each distillery. Held in a space that houses Manila’s most extensive whisky collection, these masterclasses cater to both longtime collectors and curious newcomers.
