Tropical Depression Emong forms west of Babuyan Islands — PAGASA

The low-pressure area (LPA) located west of Babuyan Islands, Cagayan developed into a tropical depression at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, July 23, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
The tropical depression has been named “Emong.”
PAGASA said the first tropical cyclone bulletin for Emong will be issued at 11 a.m.
Aside from Emong, PAGASA is also monitoring Tropical Depression “Dante” within the Philippine Area of Responsibility.
Dante was last located 880 kilometers east of extreme Northern Luzon, with maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour (kph) and gusts reaching up to 70 kph.
PAGASA said both cyclones are expected to further enhance the southwest monsoon (habagat), which could bring persistent rains over most of Luzon and parts of Visayas until Friday, July 25.
