The municipal governments of Cainta, San Mateo, and Rodriguez, Rizal, have declared a state of calamity in their respective towns due to severe flooding brought on by the enhanced "habagat" (southwest monsoon) and Typhoon Crising in the province.
Cainta Mayor Kit Nieto said that he had tasked the Sanggunian Council to convene to declare a State of Calamity in the municipality.
In its resolution, the council noted that the weather phenomenon has “caused the displacement of numerous families, loss of income, and the disruption of essential services in the seven barangays of the municipality.”
Meanwhile, the municipal council of Rodriguez, Rizal, passed SB Resolution No. 110, declaring the town under a state of calamity.
“Due to the impact of the southwest monsoon, further intensified by Typhoon Crising, in various parts of our town—including widespread flooding, and its impact on households and livelihoods—a State of Calamity is hereby declared in the Town of Montalban pursuant to SB Resolution No. 110 S. 2025 passed by our Sangguniang Bayan," the council said.
The declaration aims to quickly distribute the necessary assistance to the affected barangays, utilize funds for disaster response and rehabilitation, and expedite the recovery of those whose livelihoods and properties have been affected.
In San Mateo, the municipal government has issued SB Resolution No. 118, placing the town under state of calamity.
“Patuloy ang pagsusumikap ng Pamahalaang Bayan na maiparating ang mga higit na kinakailangang serbisyo ng ating mga kababayan ngayong nahaharap ang San Mateo sa epekto at iniwang bakas ng kalamidad. Hiling namin ang inyong pang-unawa at kooperasyon sa ating mga susunod na hakbang na nakatuon sa pagsuporta, rehabilitasyon, at sa ating unti-unting pag-usad bilang nagkakaisang bayan (The municipal government continues to strive to provide the most needed services to our people as San Mateo faces the impact and aftermath of the disaster. We ask for your understanding and cooperation in our next steps focused on support, rehabilitation, and our gradual progress as a united people)," the local government unit (LGU) said.
The state of calamity declaration will allow the local governments to tap calamity funds and other additional resources to help in their recovery efforts.
