The city government of Las Piñas declared a state of calamity in the city due to widespread and severe flooding caused by continuous rainfall.
The Sangguniang Panglungsod passed City Resolution No. 4449-25 after severe flooding hit 18 barangays.
Las Piñas Mayor April Aguilar said the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) recorded a surge in number of evacuees.
Aguilar said the 6,000 individuals were displaced and are currently taking temporary shelter in evacuation centers across the city.
She said the declaration was based on the recommendations of Las Piñas City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC) and Resolution No. 2025-06 of the Las Piñas Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (LPDRRMC), which cited the need for urgent action due to the continuing hazards posed by flooding.
The mayor urged residents to remain vigilant and follow advisories from local officials as weather disturbances persist.
Aguilar also has mobilized all concerned departments, including the DRRMO, City Engineering Office, CSWDO, and City Health Office, to continue delivering aid and conducting assessments in the hardest-hit communities.
She said relief distribution efforts are also ongoing in coordination with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
