Cavite 4th district Rep. Francis "Kiko" Barzaga gave his honest-to-goodness take on the renewed calls in the House of Representatives to enact an anti-political dynasty law.
In a Facebook post Tuesday, July 22, neophyte solon Barzaga cited a practical reason why such law wouldn't come to fruition in the 20th Congress, or maybe ever.
"The Anti-Political Dynasty Bill will not pass because a large majority of Filipino Politicians are members of Political Dynasties, it's unlikely that they would vote against their own interests," the 26-year-old wrote.
Barzaga himself comes from a known political clan in Dasmariñas, Cavite.
The House of Representatives began accepting bills for the 20th Congress last June 30. Among the high profile measures filed had to do with banning political dynasties in the country.
The 1987 Constitution provides for the prohibition of political dynasties as may be defined by law; but there lies the rub, as there is no existing law.
