The victim, identified as Cristina Padora, 49, a devoted frontline worker, was reportedly preparing medicines and vaccines for flood-affected families temporarily staying in evacuation centers when the accident occurred.
According to the CDRRMO, the incident happened at about 8 a.m. on Tuesday, July 22. Padora was navigating the floodwaters inside the facility when she came into contact with an electrical source.
The provincial government of Meycauayan, led by Mayor Henry Villarica, extended its deepest condolences to Padora’s family and paid tribute to her commitment to public service.
“She lost her life in the line of duty. We honor her dedication and sacrifice for the welfare of our people,” Villarica said.
Meanwhile, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) has endorsed the declaration of a state of calamity for the towns of Guiguinto, Balagtas, Bocaue, and the Meycauayan.
The resolution was ratified by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Bulacan following successive weather disturbances.
The province has been battered by the effects of Severe Tropical Storm Crising, the enhanced southwest monsoon (habagat), and the recent onslaught of Typhoon Dante.
PDRRMO head Manuel Lukban Jr. reported an estimated P56 million in agricultural losses and P436,000 in damages to livestock.
At least 16,634 families have sought shelter in 56 evacuation centers across the province.
One of the most infrastructure damages was the collapse of a bridge linking the municipalities of Doña Remedios Trinidad and San Miguel.
Despite widespread destruction, Governor Daniel Fernando said the provincial government of Bulacan would withhold a province-wide state of calamity declaration for now, citing the effective response by local government units in affected areas.
