The driver of an SUV that was swept away by powerful floodwaters in Barangay 177, Camarin, Caloocan City has been found dead, while the search continues for his female passenger.
The vehicle was last seen Monday night, July 21, attempting to cross the rapidly rising waters at the Doña Aurora Bridge.
As the SUV struggled against the current, it was eventually pulled into a nearby creek and disappeared.
Authorities discovered the body of the male driver on Tuesday, July 22, at Sampaguita Bridge in Barangay Bagong Silang — several kilometers away from where the vehicle was last spotted.
According to Allyssa Tungol, the daughter-in-law of the SUV’s owner, the driver had a female passenger with him at the time — her mother-in-law.
In a social media post, Tungol appealed to the public for any information that could help locate her.
“Kung may nakita po kayong babae na posibleng kasama ng driver, ipagbigay-alam lang po agad sa amin (If you see a woman who may be with the driver, please report it to us immediately),” Tungol said in her social media post.
Rescue and retrieval teams are continuing their efforts to search for the missing passenger.
Meanwhile, local officials are urging residents to stay vigilant and avoid attempting to cross flooded roads, especially during extreme weather conditions.
Authorities are also looking into the circumstances of the incident, including whether flood alerts or safety warnings were issued and followed.
