BUTUAN CITY – The Surigao del Sur Provincial Health Office (PHO) on Wednesday reported the province's first Mpox case, the third confirmed infection in the Caraga region.
In a July 22 advisory, released to the media Wednesday, the PHO said the patient sought consultation in a health facility after experiencing symptoms including rashes, fever, fatigue, and sore throat.
The patient, who was immediately tested and isolated, had a history of travel to areas with confirmed mpox cases.
“The PHO, in coordination with the Department of Health in the Caraga region, has worked closely with the concerned local government unit to facilitate immediate contact-tracing. All identified close contacts have been traced and are under close monitoring,” the PHO said.
Residents were urged to remain calm and vigilant and continue observing minimum public health standards.
“The provincial government, through the PHO, in collaboration with local health authorities and hospitals within the province, is undertaking all necessary measures to manage and contain the case effectively,” the PHO added. (PNA)
