A total of 1,000 sacks of rice and 7,000 pieces of 7-liter bottled drinking water were donated to the City of Manila on Wednesday, July 23, by Senator Erwin Tulfo, in coordination with Manila Congressmen Ernix Dionisio and Irwin Tieng.
The donation aims to support thousands of residents affected by flooding caused by continuous rains.
Senator Tulfo personally reached out to Manila Mayor Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso to offer aid and emphasized his office’s readiness to assist further.
"Tumawag ka lang, Mayor, kung kailangan mo pa kasi I know it would not be enough and may paparating pa tayo na dalawang bagyo, Mayor, at nakahanda namang tumulong ang aming opisina (Just give me a call, Mayor, if you need more because I know this won’t be enough, and we have two more typhoons coming. Our office is ready to help)," he said.
The city government assured the public that the relief goods will be prioritized for residents currently staying in evacuation centers, where hot meals and essential supplies continue to be distributed.
"We are happy and grateful to the Senate, especially to the office of Sen. Erwin Tulfo," Domagoso said, recognizing the continued support of lawmakers during this challenging time.
Meanwhile, he said the city agencies remain on high alert.
The Department of Engineering and Public Works (DEPW) conducted inspections at the Recto and Lagusnilad underpasses, including a test run of a newly installed generator, to ensure public safety and operational readiness.
As of 3 p.m., photos from the Manila DRRMO Command Center showed several roads still submerged, while some areas have become passable.
Task Force Manila continues its mopping operations along key areas including Moriones, Dagupan, and Mel Lopez Blvd., underscoring the city’s commitment to maintaining cleanliness and order amid ongoing recovery efforts.
Authorities urge the public to stay tuned for further advisories and updates as the city braces for more possible weather disturbances.
