Anti-narcotics agents of the Philippine National Police (PNP) uprooted and destroyed around P4.8 million worth of marijuana during a raid in Tinglayan, Kalinga on Monday, July 21.
Police Brig. Gen. Edwin Quilates, director of the PNP’s Drug Enforcement Group (PDEG), said the operation covered 1,200 square kilometers of marijuana plantation in Barangay Loccong.
He said the operation resulted in the uprooting and destruction of 24,000 pieces of fully grown marijuana plants.
“The uprooted marijuana plants were immediately burned and destroyed on site,” said Quilates.
PDEG agents, backed by local police forces and operatives of the mobile force unit, took hours before the marijuana was uprooted and destroyed.
No cultivator , however, was apprehended during the conduct of the operation.
"This operation is not just about uprooting illegal plants, it is about protecting lives, securing our future, and upholding the rule of law," said Quilates.
