Over 23,000 evacuated in Marikina due to monsoon rains; injuries, health-related concerns reported

Marikina City Mayor Maan Teodoro on Tuesday, July 22, said that more than 23,380 Marikeños were evacuated from their homes due to the continuous onslaught of heavy rains brought about by the enhanced southwest monsoon or habagat that also caused the water level of Marikina River to rise to dangerous levels.
According to Teodoro and Marikina City Rescue 161, the river's water level has reached 16 meters as of 11:33 a.m., prompting the city government to raise the second alarm.

In a TV interview, Teodoro said several injuries and health-related concerns have also been reported to the local government unit (LGU) by affected residents currently staying at the city's 30 evacuation centers.
"Marami lang kaming mga injuries like nasugatan, and then meron ding ibang nagkakaroon na ng allergies sa kanilang binti, mga mild medical cases lang that the city is also addressing, especially sa mga evacuation centers. Meron naman tayong mga itinalagang mga doctors and nurses (We just have a lot of injuries like being wounded, and then there are also others who are developing allergies in their legs, just mild medical cases that the city is also addressing, especially in the evacuation centers. We already have designated doctors and nurses to respond to these cases)," the mayor said.
In its rainfall monitoring advisory issued at 11 a.m. today, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) raised an Orange Rainfall Warning in Metro Manila and nearby provinces, including Zambales, Bataan, Bulacan, Pampanga, Cavite, Batangas, and Rizal.
This means severe flooding is expected in flood-prone areas.
