CEBU CITY – A man believed to be high on drugs was wounded in a shootout with the police in Barangay Tayud, Liloan town, northern Cebu province on Monday night, July 21.
Sammy Taborada was wounded in the head. Police described him as a drug personality.
Police Executive Master Sgt. Eutiqiuo Prosia, investigator of the Liloan Police Station, said they received an armed person alarm at past 8 a.m.
Police said the suspect was seen brandishing a KG-9 sub-machine gun and .45 caliber pistol while threatening his neighbors.
Lawmen rushed to the area but when they arrived at the suspect’s house, shots were fired toward them.
A civilian anti-crime volunteer wearing a bullet-proof vest was hit in the arm and body.
Police returned fire and hit the victim, who was taken to a hospital in Cebu City.
Authorities recovered the firearms owned by the suspect.
