Habagat displaces more than 8,000 families in Rizal province

More than 8,000 families affected by continuous heavy downpour in Rizal province have been staying in evacuation centers since Monday, July 21.
Reports gathered by the Rizal Police Provincial Office (PPO) from the various municipal social welfare offices and disaster rescue units in the province showed that 8,138 families are taking shelter in evacuation sites of the local government units.
In Rodriguez, popularly known as Montalban, there are around 2,550 families in evacuation centers, including those whose houses were toppled by floods.
In Barangay Manggahan, around 200 families are staying in a covered court as their houses, situated near a river, were affected by floodwater.
Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla and Department of Social Welfare and Development Secretary Rex Gatchalian visited an evacuation center in Rodriguez on Tuesday, July 22, to lead in the distribution of relief goods in coordination with the Rizal provincial government and the Rodriguez municipal government.

Residents in a nearby Pagayon Compound, a small community near the Ynares Center Montalban, have been keeping rubber boots at hand as the street leading to their homes has been a flood-prone area that even a brief moderate downpour will result in ankle-deep flood.
Some residents, who spoke to Manila Bulletin on condition of anonymity, said they would be grateful if the local government would find a solution to their long-time problem as living in flooded community such as Pagayon Compound has been making their movement to and from their homes limited.
In Cainta, a flood-prone municipality, several streets were flooded, including those inside the subdivisions. As of 9 p.m. on July 22, floodwater has started to rise in some portions of Imelda Avenue, according to a post on social media page of Mayor Johnielle Keith Nieto.
The Rizal PPO were confirming a field report about three persons who reportedly died in Antipolo and Tanay and another one in a still unidentified locality.
Work in government offices and classes in both private and public schools in Rizal province have been suspended for Wednesday, July 23, as declared by the DILG.
