Gov. Vilma leads boodle fight to prove fish in Taal Lake safe to eat

BATANGAS CITY - Batangas Gov. Vilma Santos-Recto led a boodle fight with officials of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources 4-A and local fishermen on Tuesday, July 22, to dispel doubts and ensure that fish caught from Taal Lake are safe to eat.
BFAR 4-A Director Sammy Malvas said that they want to restore enthusiasm and eliminate fear regarding fish harvested in the lake through the boodle fight.
The governor assured that fish from Taal Lake are safe to eat amid the reported dumping of bodies of missing sabungeros there.
She assured assistance for fishermen affected by the events in the lake.
Recto added that their response measures prioritize fishermen in the lake whose livelihoods have been affected,
and income decreasing as a result.Also in the event were mayors of towns around the lake.
BFAR attested that fish caught in the lake, like tilapia, bangus, tawilis, and maliputo, are highly cultured or non-carnivorous.
