A total of 1,409 tourists were stranded after transport operations were disrupted by tropical storm “Crising,” prompting the Department of Tourism (DOT) to mobilize its regional offices and extend immediate assistance.
In a situational report, the DOT said its regional offices were placed on alert to coordinate with concerned agencies and provide urgent support to affected tourists.
The report showed that 1,373 tourists were stranded in Palawan, 34 in Batanes, and two in Occidental Mindoro following the suspension of sea travel and cancellation of flights in the affected areas.
The DOT added that its regional offices have been closely coordinating with local government units (LGUs), the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP), the Office of Civil Defense (OCD), and local tourism stakeholders to ensure the safety and welfare of stranded travelers.
In MIMAROPA, an online monitoring system was activated to track stranded individuals and facilitate real-time coordination, while accommodation establishments were urged to provide assistance and timely updates to their guests.
While no injuries or casualties were reported, the DOT reminded travelers to remain vigilant and to check official weather advisories before proceeding with their trips.
The agency assured the public that its central and regional offices remain in full coordination to monitor developments and extend continued support to affected tourists.
