CEBU CITY – A 78-year-old man was allegedly hacked to death by his neighbor during an argument while they were watching the fight between Manny Pacquiao and Mario Barrios in Guindulman, Bohol on Sunday, July 20.
Killed was Angelo Omapas, a resident of Barangay Cansiwang, Guindulman. The suspect was identified as Samuel Balaba, 67.
Police said it was not clear if the cause of the argument was the Pacquiao-Barrios fight. It was learned that the two had an old grudge.
Investigation said the duo were having a drinking session while watching the fight on television in a neighbor’s house.
The two neighbors suddenly argued during the second round. As the argument escalated, the two neighbors wrestled.
The suspect took his bolo and attacked the victim.
Omapas was taken to the Rural Health Unit in Guindulman where he was declared dead.
Police said the suspect fled but was arrested in a follow-up operation. Balaba faces a homicide case.
