Philippine digital payments soar to ₱2 trillion as PESONet, InstaPay see massive growth

Digital payment transactions via PESONet and InstaPay increased by 51.5 percent to ₱2 trillion in June this year, from ₱1.32 trillion in the same month last year, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) reported.
This represents a ₱680-billion increase from June 2024, according to the BSP data. Similarly, June transactions coursed through the two automated clearing houses increased by one percent from the previous month’s P1.98 trillion
The value of PESONet transactions climbed by 46.3 percent annually to ₱1.08 trillion in June, from ₱738 billion a year earlier. It also increased by 2.9 percent from the P1.05 trillion posted a month earlier.
Likewise, the value of transactions done through InstaPay jumped by 58.2 percent to ₱916.6 billion, from ₱579.4 billion in the previous year. However, it decreased slightly by 1.5 percent from May’s ₱930.6 billion worth of transactions.
The combined volume of transactions through InstaPay and PESONet increased both annually and on a monthly basis.
The recorded number of transactions was 370.8 million, up by 213.2 percent from last year’s 118.4 million transactions. It likewise increased slightly from over 369 million transactions in the previous month.
The volume of transactions that went through PESONet also jumped by 21.5 percent to 9.6 million, from 7.9 million in the same period a year ago. It also inched up by 1.1 percent from the previous month’s 9.5 million transactions.
As for the number of InstaPay transactions, the June figure stood at 361.2 million, representing a 226.9 percent increase from 110.5 million a year earlier. It also inched up slightly from 359.5million in the previous month.
PESONet and InstaPay are automated clearing houses introduced in December 2015, as part of the BSP’s national retail payment system (NRPS) framework.
PESONet handles high-value transactions and serves as an electronic alternative to paper checks. InstaPay, meanwhile, is a real-time electronic fund transfer service for low-value transactions up to ₱50,000, commonly used for remittances and e-commerce.
