Monitoring Wawa Dam
As of 12:45 p.m., the local government has raised the alert level to red and activated its Incident Management Team (IMT). Authorities are closely monitoring Wawa Dam, which is nearing its critical or overflow level and may cause a rapid rise in the Marikina River's water level if it overflows.
Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto said the water level at Wawa Dam steadily increased throughout the morning, reaching 133.28 meters above sea level (masl) at 8:00 a.m., 133.52 masl at 10:00 a.m., and 134.06 masl at 12 p.m., nearing the critical overflow level of 135.00 masl.
“Kapag umapaw ito, siguradong tataas bigla ang tubig sa Marikina River—nakikipag-ugnayan na rin ang LGU sa Brgys. Santolan, Sta. Lucia, at pati sa mga lugar na nadadaanan ng Floodway (If this overflows, it may trigger a sudden rise in the Marikina River’s water level, and the LGU is coordinating with Barangays Santolan, Sta. Lucia, and other areas along the Floodway),” Sotto said.
He urged Pasigueños not to panic and to follow instructions from their barangay or Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) in case evacuation is advised.
The mayor said that heavy to intense rains, with occasional torrential downpours, are being experienced in the city and are expected to continue throughout the day and possibly persist until tomorrow.
