East zone concessionaire Manila Water Co., Inc. has reported that the La Mesa Dam began spilling amid continuous rains caused by the southwest monsoon.
Manila Water said the dam started releasing water at 2:52 p.m. after its water level reached 80.15 meters, surpassing its normal operating level of 78 to 79 meters.
“The spillway empties into the Tullahan River, and the local government unit has already been advised of the risk of spilling earlier today,” Manila Water said.
Meanwhile, other dams in the region have also seen rising levels. Angat Dam is at 196.11 meters, slightly above its minimum operating level of 180 meters.
Ipo Dam has reached 100.86 meters, just a few meters shy of its normal level of 101 meters.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported that Ipo Dam opened one of its gates earlier this morning.
