The 24-year-old South Korean star on cross-cultural collaborations, style essentials, and staying grounded
With their striking visuals, undeniable charisma, and impressive talents, Korean actors and artists continue to captivate the world—evident in the ever-growing global demand for K-culture.
One of the most exciting results of this phenomenon is the evolving intercultural exchange between nations. More and more South Korean and Asian actors are breaking into Hollywood and landing international projects and endorsements—including collaborations here in the Philippines.
A recent example is 24-year-old South Korean actor, singer, and host Choi Bo Min, known for his roles in “A-Teen,” “18 Again,” and “Twenty-Twenty.” He has officially kickstarted his entertainment career in the Philippines with several milestones: He released a Filipino single titled “Nakaraang Buhay,” signed with Universal Records, and starred on the series “Beauty Empire.” On top of that, he’s also gaining attention from local brands, recently being named the newest ambassador for BlueWater Day Spa.
In an interview with Manila Bulletin Lifestyle, Choi Bo Min shared how he manages life as an actor while continuing his studies, proving that he’s not just talented—but also incredibly driven.
Do you have any favorite Filipino food?
I tried a lot of Filipino food like sisig and chicken inasal. I tried a lot and I like it too.
How’s learning the Filipino language so far?
I’ve learned a few Tagalog words like “okay lang” and “masarap.” Because I have a line in “Beauty Empire”—I play a character named Alex—I’ve picked up a bit more Tagalog through that. I’m still learning, but I hope to improve and understand more as I go.
What life lesson have your parents taught you that you always keep in mind?
My parents always remind me to smile and stay positive no matter what.
Who is your fashion icon?
I don’t have a specific fashion icon, but I usually get inspiration from my friends. Sometimes, we even have a bit of friendly competition. I prefer casual outfits—like oversized pants and big T-shirts—because they’re more comfortable. That’s my go-to style.
Where’s your go-to place when you need some “me time”?
When I have free time, I like to be around nature or in quiet places. My team also enjoys calm and peaceful spaces. I usually go for massages to relax my body—it helps me recharge.
How do you find time to relax despite a busy schedule?
I bring small, portable massage devices—especially for my legs. I also use skincare products like face masks and moisturizing creams. Those little routines help me relax and take care of myself.
How is working in the Philippines different from working in Korea?
In many ways, working in Korea and the Philippines is quite similar. But in the Philippines, the vibe is more energetic and chill. That’s a big difference, and I really enjoy it.
What’s your message to young fans when it comes to pursuing their dreams?
That’s a very good question. I believe you can do anything. When you feel tired, it’s okay to rest. When you feel ready, go for the challenge. Just have confidence in yourself—you can do anything. Keep going.
